BLUE LACE AGATE

Fascination with a stone

An on-going love affair with this beautiful blue stone, that I first met in 2006, has given me the opportunity to collect, study, and carve many of the wonderful pieces that have come from just one mine in Namibia. Not that much information is generally available on Blue Lace Agate, so it is my wish to record and share what I have learnt on my journey to date.

Here you can find more information ABOUT blue lace, including links to more scientific articles on the formation of the agate.

Among the photographs you will find a selection of specimens showing ASSOCIATIONS , i.e. associated minerals that sometimes appear within vugs in the rock. In the CARVINGS section there is a selection of my favourite work –none are for sale as they form a precious part of my family. On the whole, my SPECIMEN collection only spans the latter part of this mine’s production, so no doubt there are many more beautiful or unusual pieces of Blue Lace Agate in existence. Please let me know if you are aware of anything special and I shall add it to the GALLERY, which is where you will also see my latest finds.

Sadly, since I created this website,  production at the Blue Lace Agate mine was put on hold in January 2017. I shall, however, continue to search for and record any old, large or special pieces that may still be out there waiting for me.

Should you find all of this just too blue, you are welcome to try “Life to me is like a Carousel…” It is about my recent restoration of an antique Carousel Horse.

“The deeper the blue becomes, the more strongly it calls man towards the infinite, awakening in him a desire for the pure and, finally, for the supernatural…
The brighter it becomes, the more it loses its sound,
until it turns into silent stillness and becomes white.”
Wassily Kandinsky
